In the sun-drenched kitchens and quiet mornings across Queensland and beyond, the humble French Press stands tall—an icon of simplicity, elegance, and pure coffee pleasure. At Wolff Coffee Roasters, we believe every brew at home should be as intentional and satisfying as one served across the counter of your favourite café.
The French Press: A Morning Ritual Worth Mastering Imagine this: you’re up before the household stirs, the kettle’s heating, and the comforting scent of freshly ground coffee starts to rise. The French Press—also known as a plunger or press pot—is your ticket to a full-bodied brew that’s rich, aromatic, and incredibly easy to get right.
Unlike fussy machines or capsule contraptions, this timeless brewer (invented in 1929, and barely changed since) puts flavour and control firmly in your hands.

Step-by-Step: Brewing the Wolff Way Choose Your Coffee Start with something that shines in immersion brews. We highly recommend:
Edelweiss – a refined, balanced profile with delicate florals.
Big Dog Blend – bold and chocolatey; a real morning crowd-pleaser.
Low Caffeine – all the flavour, none of the jitters.
Measure It Out Use a coffee-to-water ratio of 1:15. That’s 30g of coffee for 450ml of water, a great start.
Grind It Coarse Think raw sugar texture. A coarse grind allows for better extraction without bitterness.
Heat Your Water to 93°C Just off the boil is perfect. Too hot, and you’ll scald the grounds. Too cool, and the brew will fall flat.
Bloom and Brew Add the ground coffee to your French Press. Pour in just enough water to wet the grounds, stir gently, and wait 30 seconds. Then, pour in the rest of your water and set a 4-minute timer.
Plunge and Pour At the buzzer, press down gently but firmly. Pour immediately to avoid over-extraction.
Savour the Moment This is where it all comes together, the aroma, the body, the balance. That’s your coffee, brewed with purpose.
Pro Tips for Home Brewers Preheat your French Press and mug with hot water.
Use filtered water!!! Great coffee starts with great water.
Don’t skip the bloom! It releases trapped gases and improves flavour.
Bring the Café Home With a bit of know-how and quality beans, you’ll find that brewing at home isn’t just convenient, it’s deeply rewarding. The French Press is your daily moment of calm, your morning meditation, your no fuss brew bar.
