The French press is a simple and versatile way to make rich, full-bodied coffee. Whether you’re brewing a single cup or a larger batch, follow these steps to get the perfect brew.

What you'll need:

  • French Press / Plunger
  • Kettle with hot water (90–96°C)
  • Grinder (manual or electric)
  • Timer

For 1 Cup (350ml French Press)

  • 20g of freshly roasted coffee beans

For Larger Size (1L French Press)

  • 55g-60g of freshly roasted coffee beans

Steps:

  1. Boil fresh water.
  2. Grind coffee to a coarse consistency, similar to rock salt or use your pre-ground French Press coffee
  3. Preheat the French press by adding hot water, then discard the water.
  4. Add ground coffee to the French press.
  5. Pour boiling water over the coffee grounds in a slow, circular motion.
  6. Stir gently to ensure all the grounds are saturated.
  7. Place the lid on with the plunger raised and let it steep for 4-10 minutes.
  8. After steeped, press the plunger down slowly and steadily.
  9. Pour the coffee immediately into your cup to avoid over-extraction.

Tips & Adjustments

  • Grind Size: Always grind your coffee to a coarse consistency, similar to rock salt. For convenience, you can select the French press grind type on our website when adding coffee to your cart, and we’ll grind it perfectly for you.
  • Plunging Problems: If the plunger resists or requires too much force, stop to prevent the glass from cracking. Adjust your grind to a coarser texture.
  • Tailor Strength: For a stronger brew, increase the coffee to 22g. For a lighter, more floral result, shorten the brew time to 3:30–3:45.
  • Serve Fresh: Always pour the coffee straight after plunging to preserve its optimal flavour.
